Dying to Live: The Journey Into A Man's Open Heart is an independent documentary by filmmaker and actor Ben Mittleman detailing his recovery from open heart surgery and his struggle to care for the failing health of the people closest to him.
A raw, no-holds-barred experience, Ben turns the camera on himself to document what becomes an extraordinarily powerful and intimate view into the life of a man blessed with uncommonly youthful looks and energy now facing the prospect of permanently compromised health or even death. At the same time, Ben must confront a host of other personal and professional problems, including the serious health challenges facing his mother and his girlfriend of over two decades – unquestionably the two most cherished people in Ben's life and the souls that give his life meaning.
At times funny, warm, angry, peaceful, bittersweet and heartbreaking, Ben’s film explores what happens when life refuses to follow the script- we are left to question, explore and relive how we became who we are, what is most important to us and how these revelations help us to live in the present and build for the future.
